Federal Funding for NF Research

NF Network Advocacy

You can contact Congress by March 20 to let them know that federal funding for NF research is important to you. See the message below for a little more info and use this link to “Voice Your Support For NF Research“.

Dear NF Friends Old and New,

Every March the NF community works together to tell Congress about the urgent need for NF research. It’s critical that we build on the successes of the past 20 years. Scientists have realized that NF holds the key to important questions about such varied topics as nerve repair, tumor growth, and learning disabilities. Without federal funding a huge percentage of NF research will come to a halt.

NF champions, Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Senator Edward Markey (D-MA), are circulating two “Dear Colleague” letters seeking support for NF research in Fiscal Year 2016. The first letter requests $15 million for the Army’s NF Research Program (NFRP) in the FY2016 Defense Appropriations bill. The second letter requests inclusion of report language on NF research at the National Institutes of Health in the FY2016 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill.

Our job, yours and mine, is to ask our representatives (2 senators, one congressperson) to sign these Dear Colleague letters. It’s unbelievably simple using the NF Network’s Advocacy Action page. The letter’s already written; it just awaits your signature. Feel free to rewrite or expand the letter with your personal story. You don’t even have to know the names of your reps – you just need your zip code! It’s all done for you.

Please contact Congress now! You’ll be glad you did.

Bonus – if you wonder why the Department of Defense funds NF research, write back, and I’ll send you the explanation!

Thanks on behalf of NFers everywhere,

Rosemary

P.S. This year’s deadline is March 20.
